The name New Zealand is derived from a Maori term meaning 'Land of the
Long White Cloud'. The country comprises two major islands, North and
South Island, surrounded by a scattering of smaller ones. North Island has
dramatic volcanic mountains, while South Island, also mountainous, has
spectacular scenery including tranquil lakes, glaciers, and lush green forests.
New Zealand is the youngest country in the world and has a diverse and
dynamic culture with European, Maori and Asian influences. Employment
prospects are good for expats with the immigration service seeking over
45,000 new migrants each year to join a wide variety of industries.
Those relocating to New Zealand can look forward to a high standard of
living, friendly people and the opportunity to enjoy a great outdoor lifestyle of
both action packed and laid back activities.
Household and personal effects can be imported without paying duty provided
