Australia is a vast continent - the sixth largest in the world - but has the lowest population density of any country with only two people per square kilometre.
British settlers first arrived in Australia in 1778 many of them originally having been ‘transported’ as convicts. The population was later boosted in the mid 19th century with the arrival of prospectors from around the world keen to make their fortunes in the Australian gold rush.
Today, Australia is one of the most popular places for expats to relocate, attracted no doubt by the county’s high standard of living, agreeable climate and rich cultural diversity.
From cosmopolitan cities like Melbourne and Sydney, to remote towns in the outback where your closest neighbour may be a hundred miles away, Australia has something to suit all tastes and lifestyles.
Household and personal effects can be imported without paying duty provided you have owned them for at least one year before arrival in Australia. The team at Arrowpak International will provide you with the correct documentation, which you will need to complete before departure. Pets Cats and dogs may be imported to Australia but there are strict conditions designed to manage biosecurity risks. For the latest import conditions applicable to your cat or dog please use the link at the bottom of the page.
Electrical current is 240/250 volts, 50Hz. Three-pin flat blade plugs are used but are different from those in most other countries, so adapters or replacement plugs are required.
All cars and motorcycles must be granted import approval, and are subject to import duty. Changes to the vehicle may be required to make the vehicle compliant with Australian standards.
Regulations vary from state to state. In most Australian states and territories you are able to drive on a UK licence as long as it is current. You can only drive vehicles that your overseas licence authorises you to drive and you must drive according to any conditions on your overseas licence.
